Description Cornelian Cherry (Cornus Mas) 20 seeds (#265)
A deciduous shrub or small tree valued for its very early flowering and edible fruits. Typically grows 3–6 m in height and width. In early spring, before the leaves appear, it becomes covered with numerous small yellow flowers. By late summer it produces bright red cherry-like fruits.
GROWING CONDITIONS
Well adapted to Northern and Eastern European climates. Prefers sunny or partially shaded locations with fertile, well-drained soil. Tolerates a wide range of soils and grows well even in more calcareous conditions. Suitable for urban environments.
CARE
A low-maintenance plant. Pruning is usually limited to shaping the crown or removing old branches. Young plants should be watered during prolonged drought. Spring fertilization with general garden fertilizer can support healthy growth.
HARDINESS
Very hardy and reliably survives cold winters. Also tolerant of drought and urban pollution. Rarely affected by pests or diseases. A long-lived and dependable ornamental and fruiting plant.
INTERESTING FACT
