Description Virginia Stock (Malcolmia Maritima) 100 seeds (#1374)

Virginia stock (Malcolmia maritima) is a charming annual from the mustard family (Brassicaceae), admired for its delicate, four-petaled, fragrant flowers. Native to the Mediterranean coast, it is commonly known as “Greek stock” or “coastal malcolmia.” Its sweet scent and soft shades of pink, lavender, purple, and white make it a popular choice for borders, rock gardens, and containers.
PLANT APPEARANCE
A low-growing, compact plant reaching 20–30 cm tall. Its slender, branched stems bear narrow, grey-green leaves and clusters of small, four-petaled flowers in pink, violet, lilac, or white hues. The flowers are highly fragrant and attractive to bees and butterflies, creating a soft, colorful carpet of blooms.
GROWING CONDITIONS
Prefers full sun and light, well-drained soil of moderate fertility. Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soil. Sow seeds directly where plants are to grow, as malcolmia dislikes transplanting. Thin seedlings to 10–15 cm apart. Ideal for borders, rock gardens, and containers, as well as sandy or coastal-style plantings.
CARE
Low-maintenance plant. Water moderately and avoid over-fertilizing. Remove faded blooms to prolong flowering. In favorable conditions, the plant can self-seed and return the following year. Resistant to most pests and diseases.
INTERESTING FACT
Known as the “Greek stock,” Malcolmia maritima is celebrated in Mediterranean countries for its fragrance and resilience. Its flowers open fully in sunlight and release a pleasant scent in the evening. The plant symbolizes simplicity, lightness, and the carefree spirit of summer by the sea.

USEFUL INFO
If there is one thing that makes ornamental plant seeds stubbornly refuse to germinate, it is the lack of a cold period. In nature, it is simple: a seed falls to the ground in autumn, spends winter in moisture and low temperatures, and wakes up in sp..
