Description Korean Fir (Abies Koreana) 10 seeds (#666)

Korean Fir (Abies koreana) is a compact and highly ornamental evergreen conifer native to the mountains of Korea. It is prized for its dense conical shape, soft bluish-green needles, and striking purple cones that appear early in the plant’s life. It is considered one of the most beautiful fir species for home gardens and landscaped spaces.
PLANT APPEARANCE
It typically grows 3–7 meters tall (often smaller in gardens). The crown is dense and conical. Needles are short and soft, dark green above and silvery-blue below. Cones are upright, purple to violet, and highly decorative.
GROWING CONDITIONS
Location: Prefers full sun to light partial shade.
Soil: Grows best in fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged areas.
CARE
Water during prolonged dry periods and mulch the base of young plants. Pruning is typically unnecessary as the crown forms naturally. Avoid planting in sites where water accumulates.
INTERESTING FACT
Korean fir begins producing its distinctive upright purple cones at a much younger age than most fir species, sometimes as early as 5–7 years old.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
A short period of cold and moist stratification (in the fridge) needed.
1. Soak the seeds in clean water for 24 hours. Fully drain away all of the water and place the seeds in a zip-lock freezer bag. Place the seeds in the fridge. Make sure the seeds during this period not dry out or are waterlogged otherwise the pre-treatment will be ineffective.
2. After 6-8 weeks of the pretreatment seeds are ready to be sown.
3. Sow in a good quality potting compost. It shoudl be sterile and clean, never used before. Firm the compost gently, water and sow the seeds on the surface. Cover the seeds lightly (~2 mm) of vermiculite or sieved compost. Keep moist and at room temperature.
4. Germination will begin in a few weeks.

USEFUL INFO
If there is one thing that makes ornamental plant seeds stubbornly refuse to germinate, it is the lack of a cold period. In nature, it is simple: a seed falls to the ground in autumn, spends winter in moisture and low temperatures, and wakes up in sp..
