WHEN AND WHERE TO PLANT
It is best to plant in April or May, when the soil naturally warms up.
Lavender looks great in flowerbed borders, naturalistic plantings in rows as a low hedge or border. The plants also grow very well in containers.
As it is a Mediterranean plant, it needs a lot of sun and well-drained soil. Therefore, it prefers poor, dry or moderately fertile soil, including chalky and alkaline soils.

HOW TO PLANT
Remove weeds, dig the soil to a depth of 30 cm, remove any remaining roots. If the soil is heavy, plant on 20-30 cm high mounds (hills) or in raised beds where the roots cannot get wet.
Plant the purchased plants as soon as possible, 30 cm apart. Water regularly during the first season after planting, especially in dry weather.
If planting in pots, they should be at least 30-40 cm in diameter and have large drainage holes. Use a universal compost and substrate mixture, mixed with 1/4 perlite and vermiculite.
Plant the lavender at the same level as the previous pot.

WATERING
Newly planted lavender needs regular watering during the first summer. Fully established plants are drought tolerant, so they need to be watered infrequently.
Container plants will always need more moisture, as they dry out faster and their roots have a limited amount of soil. In winter, containers are kept with minimal moisture, as excess moisture reduces the plants' tolerance to frost.

FERTILIZATION
Lavender likes infertile soils, so additional fertilization is not required.

PRUNING
The first flowers that have faded are cut off - this encourages re-flowering.
Older plants can become woody and non-decorative. In order for the plants to be compact and not lose their appearance, it is best to prune the plants annually in early autumn, only after flowering has ended. All stems up to about 2.5 cm high are removed.
